Going the extra mile to serve our patients

Going the extra mile to serve our patients

Who: Dr. Justin LaReau of Chicago, orthopedic surgery

What: 4th quarter MVP for Compassion

Why: An elderly blind patient was recommended to Dr. LaReau after suffering for seven years from a broken hip replacement and spending the past year in a wheelchair.

Upon her arrival to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, Dr. LaReau spent nearly an hour talking with her and her daughter about her treatment options. He cautioned his patient, telling her how difficult the procedure would be, especially at her age.

Dr. LaReau successfully performed surgery that lasted more than seven hours. Afterward, he called the critical care unit every day to check on her, even on those days when he was not on call.
